Atari’s Next Acquisition is Retrogaming Emulation Specialist Digital Eclipse

Atari in 2023 certainly isn’t sitting still. $4 million in cash and incentives that could bring the deal worth up to $20 million over the next 10 years was the price tag to acquire retrogaming emulation specialists, Digital Eclipse (https://www.digitaleclipse.com/) via PC Gamer:

“Digital Eclipse is the best in the world at what they do,” said Wade Rosen, chairman and CEO of Atari. “They have a deep love and respect for the history of the games industry, and are renowned for developing critically acclaimed projects based on historic franchises. Digital Eclipse, along with Nightdive, are in perfect alignment with Atari’s DNA and renewed purpose.”

Indeed, these folks are the real deal when it comes to game emulation, as shown to Atari through their excellent work on Atari 50th collection. This author is especially fond of their work on the Atari Jaguar game Tempest 2000. This has notoriously been a difficult game to get right, emulation-wise, compared to the real experience.

Fellow PGM member Vader4633 mentioned Digital Eclipse also released a Halloween-themed game recently on Steam called Candy Creeps (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2198640/Candy_Creeps/)

Upon further research, another PGM member Vacantcode already bought and reviewed on Steam Candy Creeps saying:

Took a break from playing to Robocop: Rogue City (see: Launching November 2, 2023 – Robocop: Rogue City – Alex Murphy Edition 48 hours early access) to wishlist Candy Creeps. $4.99 is the regular price and was briefly on sale at launch for $3.99.
