This week’s featured games are: R-Type (arcade) and R-Type Final 2.
Season 3, Week 13 of Score Chasing begins Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 12:00:01 PST (GMT-8) featuring R-Type, the arcade version and bonus score chasing the more modern R-Type Final 2. This article will tell you everything you need to know about how to join our group and play both games.

Scrolling shoot-em-up game. Use your force to help kill the aliens. Pick up power-ups that appear when you kill “Armos”. Power-ups help you get stronger. They include air-to-ground, reflective, air-to-air, heat-seeking lasers, and speed-ups.

This will take you directly to the official PGM iScored Score Chasing Scoreboard at the spot where you will enter your score on this week’s featured game. Where can you play? Here are a few suggestions (alphabetical order) but is not a complete list by any means:
- Arcade – yes, check your local area for barcades, arcades, mallcades, etc. You might have an arcade machine nearby and play might still be a quarter!
- Various Emulated / MAME / CoinOpsX / etc – emulated versions are allowed, but we do not typically link to these sources.
- Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch – search the stores for consoles for “arcade archives” as sometimes there are licensed versions of the games we feature available.
Now that you have located where to play, simply start playing to establish your personal best score. The goal of score chasing is not a typical leaderboard high score, be the top score tournament. We simply want you to play and beat your personal best.

I am so sorry I missed this. I LOVE THIS GAME. And I missed that it was on sale. Polo mentioned it to me, and then I spaced it. How is the game? I really want to know. Will there be a more indepth review now that you’ve played it some? How are these newer ones. The entire collection is like $122 but I bet that comes down in price as well. Anyway, I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes-out for these coming on sale, if I don’t pull the trigger at full price for at least one of them. Oh wait, you’ll be talking about these games this Sunday! Okay, got to mark my calendar and yell FAE!!!! Lool.
You didn’t miss the game 🙂 We’re still playing it until midnight tonight for this score chasing. R-Type is a great game! I’ll make sure to mention you in the Discord thread where we can discuss it even more. The newer ones vary in quality based on what I’ve tried. I think R-Type Final 2 is one of the better modern takes, but, yes, it becomes prohibitively expensive if you buy all the different DLC. I think the base game is really all one needs unless they want to go deep down the rabbit hole of modifying their ship, shields, weapons and so on, but that’s part of the whole fun. I just like to take the default ship and go as far as I can go, like when you played the arcade game, but I do see the allure to customizing everything for those that love tinkering, hence why it is the bonus game for the week. I don’t know how many others got into this part of the modern game, but I know there is an audience that loves this side of things.
