Iron Galaxy to make Killer Instinct Free-To-Play on Steam/PC and Xbox

Good news for those that enjoy fighting game Killer Instinct. The base edition is going free-to-play on both Steam/PC and Xbox. The date of when exactly this is happening, as of this writing, has not been announced, but the devs state it’s in “final testing” ahead of the 10th Anniversary update. This likely means it’s in the home stretch and presumably will be released in the very near future.

The plan is still to sell the Deluxe/Anniversary Edition and, more good news, those that have already bought the base edition on Steam will be able to download the Anniversary Edition for free.

Developer Iron Galaxy also revealed that players will be able to buy the Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition for $30. This will include every one of the 29 fighters, all premium content for the game, an XP booster, holiday accessories and more. The Anniversary Edition will replace the Definitive Edition on Xbox consoles and PC (i.e. through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store).

Killer Instinct is also available on Game Pass, so subscribers to that service can play it now for free there.

Lastly, during the Autumn 2023 Steam Sale that runs through November 28, 2023 at 10am PST (GMT-8), the base edition of Killer Instinct is 67% off and selling for $13.19 USD (the lowest price on Steam ever has been $9.99, and no idea if it will be offered that low again), meaning you’ll be able to get the Anniversary edition whenever it releases at a good discount over the planned $30 price.
