Earlier in 2024, we were chatting about creepy dolls going after humans and Chucky came up as not very kid-friendly. I added that Chucky was never really that scary to me, unlike Talky Tina from the fifth season of The Twilight Zone. Talky Tina was a doll voiced by June Foray that seeks psychological revenge on Telly Savalas’ character, a mean stepfather in an episode titled “Living Doll”
After looking over the Wikipedia page on this undeniably disturbing doll, I learned of a game on Steam called Poppy Playtime that was released in chapters, with the first chapter being free to play.
You must stay alive in this horror/puzzle adventure. Try to survive the vengeful toys waiting for you in the abandoned toy factory. Use your GrabPack to hack electrical circuits or nab anything from afar. Explore the mysterious facility… and don’t get caught.

There’s been some drama around how Poppy Playtime released and distributed the game, notably its involvement with NFTs.
The first three chapters of Poppy Playtime garnered positive reviews for their horror, gameplay, story and animation, although they were criticized for their numerous bugs, in particular in the second chapter. The game faced several controversies, mainly due to its aesthetics and character design’s similarities to that of children-oriented media resulting in popularity among younger-than-intended demographics. The announcement of in-game non-fungible token (NFT) content in December 2021 received harsh criticism, resulting in the developers reversing all profits from the tokens to charity.
