File the picture above of the UNICO Nova Blast in the previously somewhat interested department.
Did not preorder, don’t have that kind of FOMO, but for some timed leaned toward buying the UNICO candy cab (see: UNICO is Releasing Nova Blast Candy Cab Home Arcade)
I didn’t have an immediate/pressing need. Certainly not because it’s a trend or cool, but because I want a candy cab for our game room. It’s better quality than the Atgames Legends Ultimate Mini which had the same TATE rotate screen option.
The UNICO Novablast also mirrors real arcade machinery made popular in the 90s and still popular in Japan today, unlike the Polycade Sente which has a strange design and form factor. It might appeal to some, but to me it looks like nothing I’d ever want in our gameroom. Personal taste, as some do apparently like the look.
And we can put whatever we want in there. Yes, I could do the same thing by gutting my dormant iiRcade, but my grandkids didn’t care much for and/or play the iiRcade. They did care for the candy cabs– a lot.
I’m interested in putting form factors into our gameroom that family/friends/guests will want to play when they visit/hang/chill 🙂 Might go with the bartop and simply put on the other end of the bar … along with the other bartop machine we’ve been looking at.
Now forget everything I just wrote about wanting this, because I’m very glad I didn’t buy into it. We have limited space for our gameroom and while this looks cool and might actually fit a very specific gaming need, I’m staying on the sidelines.
2024 — past tense — had been a quiet year in our household for buying into gaming hardware, until the last month or so. Started with my son buying the Stern Pinball Jaws premium (see: Our Son Bought a New In Box Jaws Stern Premium – The First 40 Days of Ownership – What’s the Experience Really Like?) and then bought my wife and I an IGT G20 Multi-game machine. Then for my birthday a couple weeks ago I bought a NIB Stern Iron Maiden premium (My Best Birthday Present in 56 Years: Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast Premium NIB) and yesterday brought home a NIB Stern James Bond 007 pro. We went literally from 0 pins owned to 3 in 2024 + a casino machine. 4 real game machines, total, in 2024.
Meanwhile, I’ve spent the bulk of 2024 playing unplayed PC games: 2024 Resolution: Play ALL My Unplayed PC Games + How To Create Dynamic Unplayed Steam Collection
HI Todd!
Do you think Glen’s arcade cabinet comes close to this Unico Cab in terms of features set. At a sub $1000 it seems like a better price point and there’s so many options as well.
I don’t know very much about Glen’s machine to compare against this Unico. We should talk about this on Tuesday and see if we can do a feature comparison between the two 🙂
