Nintendo Alarmo is aimed at Kids, of course

I don’t know what Nintendo is doing these days. Sales of Switch seem to be fading, especially since the Steam Deck.

Look, we don’t typically report on news here, and I have real work to do, but just had to break in on this one, with a not-so-bold prediction: few adult gamers are going to storm the cash register for Nintendo’s Alarmo (https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/nintendo-sound-clock-alarmo-121311/), sorry.

Well, except if their children want it.

It looks like something straight out of Mario world and will set parents back $99. It responds to your movements, seriously? So, roll over in bed and it makes game sounds? WTH?

Love PGM member Vacantcode’s response:

I write all this tongue firmly in cheek, because you just know if our grandchildren want one of these overpriced stupid alarm clocks, we’ll buy one. Thanks Nintendo for making something loud, obnoxious and, well, pointless — but, yeah, it looks cool.

Looks like you need a Nintendo Switch Online sub to use this, too? Cha-ching.

In a way, if this thing was more like the Chumby. Google what one of those is, if it doesn’t ring a bell, this might have some sensible uses. Hey, I don’t know, what if this Alarmo actually played games? It doesn’t. It’s an alarm clock in an era where everybody has them — for free — on their phone. Motion-sensor tech? In your phone, too. It’s giant and red and looks like Mario’s head? That’s Alarmo.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. But some folks will buy this, surely they will. Will you?
