One of the earliest educational games I learned on an Apple II in school was a typing game. You played as this spaceship with letters and words approaching the ship and you had to type them to keep them from hitting and blowing up your ship. The game was simple, like a lot of games back in the day, but effective.
Enter Typing.com (https://www.typing.com/) a site that offers to not only teach folks how to type, but uses typing-oriented games to reinforce the skill. Sign up to the site for free — ad-supported — and immediately start your typing journey, earning XP, watching videos on learning the home keys (A,S,D,F for left and and J,K,L,; for right).
For roughly $10 you can get rid of the ads all over the site. I coudn’t figure out (easily) how long that $10 gets you, but it appears that’s a yearly subscription fee, not monthly, which isn’t terrible, for those that want a cleaner website experience.
As for the “free” games you can play? There is a space one called ZType: https://www.typing.com/student/game/ztype
The goal in Z-Type is you’re a ship at the bottom and waves of words drop down at you. Type the words to shoot them away before they collide and end your life. Your Words Per Minute (WPM) are tracked throughout the game and, again, typing.com XP points are earned for your time spent playing.
In Type-A-Balloon (https://www.typing.com/student/game/type-a-balloon) ballons are shot out of cannons and you need to type each letter before it travels off the top of the screen. If you already know how to type, you’ll want to use hard or medium difficulty because this one is slow to ramp up difficulty.
