Instead of Alexa, Wear Omi for $89

Alexa is one of the things I never got into. It’s not the idea that it might be handy to have a computer or, well, your phone at the ready, but do we really need another device? Apparently, some think we do because here is Omi (https://h.omi.me/apps), a wearable product at CES 2025 that promises to become a brain interface in the future.

Yes, you heard that right: Omi might read your mind, someday. Now, that is intriguing, if something can figure out what I’m thinking about and just do it for me. I think about having pizza for dinner and Omi chimes in with local pizza delivery options?

Um, wait, that sounds annoying and intrusive, which is what always puts me off to these types of helper-agents. Brain controlled gaming, however is something I would check out. It’s something we’ve covered at PGM before Meta’s Experimental Neural Wristband Could Take Signals from Brain + Meta AR Glasses Demo by end of 2024? and Paralyzed Man Plays Raiden V and other games With His Mind as Controller

As long as it doesn’t require any kind of surgical implants. No surgery, not something that’s going to be annoying but something passive that I can play games with using the brain as a controller.

Right now the entertainment apps Omi has are pretty bare bones.

But … this is something to keep an eye one. It reminds me a little bit of a wearable Chumby, something I did buy back in the day. I like the $89 price tag for this and the community app angle. I bookmarked Omi. Right now it’s channeling me all kinds of Alexa vibes, however, and I have almost no interest in that.

What about you, friendly readers? Are you a regular Alexa user by chance? Do you have any interest in brain controlled games?
