How to read the comic book backstory for Uncanny X-Men “Days of Future Past” Issue #141 and 142

With the new Stern Pinball machine The Uncanny X-Men being announced this week (see: The Uncanny X-Men Wishlist vs. Reality +FX Tournaments + Humpday Wednesday #59), I wanted to go back and read the storyline for “Days of Future Past” from the comic book.

The pinball pictured above, according to Stern’s George Gomez is based on “Days of Future Past” from The Uncanny X-Men comics.

There are two issues specifically that cover this story event Issue #141 (Jan 1, 1981) and #142 (Feb 1, 1981)

Good news, Marvel Unlimited (https://www.marvel.com/unlimited) has a special deal running where you can get three months at $3/month (versus the regular price of $9.99/month) for the service, so you can read these issues on your mobile device, tablet, etc. This deal ends 9/9/2024, so if you’re reading this past that date, you’ll either have to pay the regular rate or run down these issues elsewhere.

I signed up to check it out. Not planning on keeping beyond the three month promo period, but we’ll see.

Always enjoyed reading the comic books as a kid.

I don’t care much for the Marvel Unlimited website (the Android app is better, check Google Play Store), as finding the specific Uncanny X-Men issues were buried a bit. Here the links to save you time finding them:

Issue #141

Issue #142

Dug into reading Issue #141 where the story begins — and no spoilers, you’re going to have to read it yourself, if you want to know the full story — it jumps fairly quickly into the action.

Comics have a way of drawing you into a story, no pun intended, very fast and make you feel like you’re a child all over again. When you’re a gray hair like me just about anything that makes you feel young again is appreciated.

While I was checking out The Uncanny X-Men, I also added to my library The Incredible Hulk (first issue!!!), Iron Man and … well, still looking for the first Spider-Man issue in there, but surely it’s there somewhere. Ooooooo, I’m in comic book heaven. Yeah, it’s digital, not the real thing that you can hold. You can go on eBay or elsewhere and buy the real comics if you like.

Spread the love

  1. Very cool, and a nice promotional price! If your public library offers it, Hoopla is a service that can be linked to your library account, and they have a ton of comics for free with your library account. They may not have these issues, but I thought it was a nice tip to include. It also provides movies, music, audio books, and ebooks.
