Everything good eventually ends, right? 48 years of manufacturing the Zilog Z80 has, in fact, come to an end. The Z80 has been used in many classic arcade and other gaming-related hardware. Can you say Colecovision?!

The Z80 was used in many pieces of gaming-related hardware, including ColecoVision, ZX Spectrum, MSX, Amstrad CPC and SAM Coupé, as well as many coin-ops, such as Namco’s iconic 1980 release Pac-Man.

Read the article linked, scalping is not going to be a problem any time soon for the Z80, but it’s a reminder that in time dinosaur processors like the Z80 will be long gone. Could they be manufactured again someday? Sure, but emulation has been and will be, except for the hardware purists (and no shade toward you, friends).
