There have been a bunch of different versions of DOOM, and a new game titled DOOM: The Dark Ages (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3017860/DOOM_The_Dark_Ages/) released May 15, 2025.
From Bethesda/iD themselves comes this sizzling trailer:
Unfortunately, this is releasing in that new pricing tier of $69.99. Will it be worth this price? Maybe. In my mind, it has give me 70-ish hours of gameplay at that price and not sure it will. Some of the DOOM releases I’ve really enjoyed and others not so much. I don’t play many modern release games 70+ hours so under that test, it’s looking like a no.
Part of me is in — mostly, because it’s an iconic franchise and memories of past good DOOM games — the other part, that it will be just another modern release leans me toward no.
Add to this that virtually guaranteed this will be on sale within 6-12 months at one of the big Steam sales (Winter and/or Summer). I’d be much more interested at $20-30 instead of $70, so I’ll probably wait in the weeds and see what friends buy it and/or offer some feedback on the game.
There’s another option.
Good news, it will be available day one on Game Pass (https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2025/05/06/xbox-game-pass-may-2025-wave-1/), so that would be another way to check it out at launch for less than buying for $70.
