Harrison Ford on Troy Baker Voicing Him more soulful than AI

This should be one of those duh things when it comes to AI, that voice acting is still a form of creative expression that AI cannot replicate — yet. A perfect example of this is last year’s shining Indy moment: Indiana Jones Encourages Resubscribing to Game Pass Ultimate. Troy Baker is an accomplished voice actor with a significant gaming resume and now he can add his professional endorsements a familiar fedora hat actor.

Yes, that one, Harrison Ford likes what Troy Baker did with his iconic character. And goes a step further to compare human voice acting to AI.

“You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent,” Ford said in response to a question about digital likeness rights, alluding to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Troy Baker’s performance. “He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it.” – Harrison Ford points to Troy Baker’s Indiana Jones for why he’s not worried about AI actors: ‘You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul’ | PC Gamer

Harrison Ford isn’t just blindly bashing AI, he’s pointing out its current Achille’s heel: soul. An area where AI might improve and get better is in NPC interaction, not replacement of real human beings. We covered this back in 2023: Generative AI may greatly expand NPC character interactions within next five years and I still believe in gaming this is one area of gaming where AI makes sense. A breeding ground for AI to learn and interact where we already are used to it in gaming. NPCs we know aren’t real people, so we expect some artificial nature to it.

Real actors, especially the good ones like Troy Baker, have zero to worry about AI eating their lunch. Not with the current technology, anyway.
