Star Wars Outlaws Minigame is called Sabacc and is Poker to Win Credits

Gambling inside a Star Wars Cantina? Why not.

Yes. In the Cantinas according to Star Wars Outlaws features my new favourite card game, I can’t play enough (gamingbible.com):

“Sabacc is a card game in the Star Wars universe a bit like real-life poker. You have yellow cards and red cards, each with a number on them, and the goal is to get a pair of matching numbers. You can draw cards to get a pair, and if you’re happy with your hand you can pass until the round is over, then everyone lays out their cards.”

While the game for PC through Ubisoft instead of Steam is a bit of a bummer, this minigame is intriguing.

I keep saying minigames, minigames, minigames. Want them in pinball, want them in other games. The games within games are an awesome thing for devs to remember to add. These seemingly simple games within other games sometimes prove to be of major interest to players.

Here’s a review from the Xbox: Star Wars Outlaws Review (Xbox Series X|S) | Pure Xbox that mentions the minigame: “You’ve also got serious fan-service in the lore and world-building, as well as stuff like Sabacc. Yes, Sabacc! And it’s not just some lazy half-assed card game, either. This is a whole game in and of itself, and there are even special cards and bonuses hidden around the world to improve your deck with. It’s great, and it feeds into an overall quality and care in the loot and collectibles systems that you’ll interact with here.”

Making mental note to ask my co-host of the Score Chasing Recap show on Saturdays, Bradygoat (PGM author page https://playgamesmore.com/author/bradygoat/) how many times or if he’s played Sabacc yet? If he’s a fan or if he’s back to playing more Golden Tee.

If this was on Steam, think I’d already be checking one of those Cantinas out and telling those space aliens to deal me. What do you think of minigames within other games? Sound off in the comments.
