The Four Assassins that Killed JFK November 22, 1963, according to Rob Reiner’s Team

Tomorrow isn’t a day to celebrate, but mourn the assassination of JFK. You might wonder what this has to do with games, but we have a fair share of games in 2024 dealing with guns. And even some where your goal as a player is to headshot a target, sniper-style. I’m thinking of games like the entire Sniper Elite series (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1029690/Sniper_Elite_5/)

But let’s get back to JFK and see if somebody, anybody, knows just who the heck really shot JFK in 1963?

Not to be anticlimactic, but this is still a guess. Just a guess, all these years later. We were able to tie this historic event to gaming last year here: Controversial 2004 Shareware PC Game: JFK Reloaded + Rob Reiner 2023 Podcast Claims Knowing Who Killed JFK – and back to do this again in 2024, but let’s recap the names that Rob Reiner and his team divulged back in January 2024.

A year ago on the 60th anniversary of assassination of President John F. Kennedy, we shared Rob Reiner’s 10-part podcast that promised to name the four assassins. I listened to some early episodes, but didn’t get back to the payoff until July of 2024. On January 10, 2024, Reiner specifically named the four assassins his team “believes” committed the act.

— Herminio Diaz Garcia, a Cuban exile, mob figure and skilled marksman. He had felt betrayed by JFK’s inaction against Castro, especially his lack of military support during the Bay of Pigs invasion.

— John Souetre, a French assassin who had tried to kill French President Charles de Gaulle.

— Charles Nicoletti, a Chicago mob associate and hit man for Giancana. He was murdered in 1977 before he could testify in front of the U.S. House Select Committee on Assassinations.

— Jack Cannon, a CIA operative.

…. At the conclusion of his podcast Reiner was careful to say: “We can’t say for a certainty who killed JFK. It’s impossible. We’ll never know for sure.” He noted the U.S. government has kept many documents of the assassination sealed for decades.

There it is at the end: “We can’t say for certainty…” How most JFK conspiracy theories end. Guesses, just guesses and Rob Reiner and his team join the chorus of boos that don’t have any certainties.

At least we know what games we’re playing and who is doing the shooting. We may never, ever know exactly who shot JFK. Unless you believe it was Oswald, of course.
