It’s that time again and for the third year in a row we’re starting our Score Chasing. In this, you’ll play a featured game or, new this year, some weeks there are multiple games to play with a goal to score as highly as you can. We work off the one credit rule, so if it’s a game that you can continue, please keep scores to one credit only.
This week’s featured games are Donkey Kong (arcade, 1981) and Donut Dodo (multiple platforms).
Season 3, Week 1 of Score Chasing begins Saturday, September 8, 2024 at 12:00:01 PST (GMT-8) featuring Donkey Kong, the arcade version and bonus score chasing for Donut Dodo (Steam/PC). This article will tell you everything you need to know about how to join our group and play both games.
PLEASE NOTE: this score chasing event is for adults, age 18 and older, so if you aren’t yet 18, then please return when you are.
First, let’s learn more about Donkey Kong (Arcade). How is the game played via Donkey Kong – Videogame by Nintendo | Museum of the Game (arcade-museum.com)
Jumpman — known today as Mario — must traverse levels structures to save his girlfriend, Pauline, from Donkey Kong before time runs out. The levels include Girders, Rivets, Elevators, and Conveyor Belts. Mario must avoid flames, barrels, and bouncing rivets to reach his goal.

This will take you directly to the official PGM iScored Score Chasing Scoreboard at the spot where you will enter your score on Donkey Kong (Arcade). Where can you play? Here are a few suggestions (alphabetical order) but is not a complete list by any means:
- Arcade – yes, check your local area for barcades, arcades, mallcades, etc. You might have an arcade machine nearby and play might still be a quarter!
- Various Emulated / MAME / CoinOpsX / etc – emulated versions are allowed, but we do not typically link to these sources.
- Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch – search the stores for consoles for “arcade archives” as sometimes there are licensed versions of the games we feature available.
Now that you have located where to play, simply start playing to establish your personal best score. The goal of score chasing is not a typical leaderboard high score, be the top score tournament. We simply want you to play and beat your personal best.

Missed this event? No worries you can still compete and submit your scores after the event is over.
Hi Todd!
My Irrcade is messed up when I turned it on all the categories at the top were overlapping each other. The same thing happens when I try to look at the game lists. I started up Donkey Kong and then Venture they characters were all grayed out and coudln’t see anything. I rebooted the machine but didn’t help. I played Donut Dodo on Steam and posted my score but I don’t have DK on anything else.
Yikes! That doesn’t sound good 🙁 Thanks for putting in a score on Donut Dodo. Hope you can get that fixed up. I know you enjoyed playing that. Maybe that card needs to be reflashed, or whatever that initial process you go through is. I think you’re part of that Discord group with Nix that put it together, maybe they can help you get it fixed. Hope so!
Hi Todd!
So I get this CoinOps Arcade Gold from Archive and plugged my Mayfair Arcade into the PC USB. The basic controls seemed to work but some of the buttons seemed to freeze the game up as far as trying to quit a game and the build. I’m using WIndows 11 so maybe that’s a thing. I was able to play a game of DK and posted a score in the IScored. The Front End is using Retro-FE and I’ve never heard of it, maybe that front end is too old now.
